Everyday Women: Finding Yourself
I'm Andrea, a 25-year-old French nurse living in Paris. I’ve always been passionate about exploring, whether through food, art, or travel. But beyond my love for discovery, I’ve also been on a journey of self-acceptance. As a plus-size woman, finding myself has meant embracing my uniqueness, building confidence, and defining my own version of happiness.
Embracing Who You Are
Women finding themselves is not a linear process—it’s shaped by experiences, challenges, and personal growth. Moving from my hometown in the south of France to Paris was a turning point. I had always been seen as the extroverted, joyful one, yet I often prioritized others' needs over my own. Over time, I learned that strength comes from within, and self-discovery is an ongoing adventure.
The Joy of Helping Others
Becoming a psychiatric nurse showed me how deeply I care about people. Supporting patients without letting emotions overwhelm me was a skill I had to develop. But my compassion and determination remain unwavering. Seeing someone find hope is incredibly rewarding, reinforcing my belief that helping others is part of who I am.
But I also believe that you always have a lot to learn from someone who thinks differently to you
A Passion for Exploration
Travel has always been a gateway to self-discovery. I’ve explored nine European countries, a few Caribbean islands, and several U.S. cities. Each place reveals something new—not just about the world, but about myself. Future plans include visits to Senegal and Tanzania, where I hope to expand my understanding of different cultures and perspectives.
Finding Identity Through Food, Art, and Fashion
Food as an Experience
Some say we eat to live, but I sometimes feel like I live to eat! From Italian and Japanese to Caribbean and Lebanese, I find joy in discovering new cuisines. Paris has only fueled this passion, with my ever-growing list of restaurants to try. Food is more than sustenance—it’s a reflection of culture and creativity.
The Power of Art
Art has always been a form of expression for me. Whether it's painting, visiting galleries, or immersing myself in music, I find peace in creativity. Music, in particular, is a constant companion—soundtracking every moment of my life, from work to relaxation. My playlists range from classical to Kompa, reggae to Afro beats, reflecting my eclectic tastes.
Fashion as a Statement
Fashion is another way I express my identity. As a tall, plus-size woman, it took time to embrace my style rather than conforming to expectations. Now, I wear what makes me feel bold and confident. I enjoy experimenting with colors, silhouettes, and trends, proving that style is for every body type. Shopping isn’t just about buying clothes—it’s about celebrating individuality.
But because I feel confident now, I know that the way I style my clothes reflects my self-confidence.
The Power of Standing Out
For a long time, I felt different—noticed for my height, weight, or vibrant personality. But over time, I realized that standing out can be empowering. My uniqueness has given me strength, and I no longer feel the need to blend in. Whether through fashion, career choices, or the way I interact with others, I embrace what makes me, me.
How to Find Yourself as a Woman
Self-discovery is a journey, not a destination. It requires embracing challenges, stepping out of your comfort zone, and learning from experiences. Whether through travel, career, relationships, or personal interests, each step shapes your identity. For me, finding myself has meant accepting my differences, pursuing passions, and staying true to my values.
So, take the time to explore who you are. Don’t shy away from challenges, change, or standing out. Every experience adds to the person you’re becoming. Your journey to finding yourself starts now.
And above all, don’t forget that finding yourself is always a lifelong journey that you selfishly have to go for
